Egypt defeated Angola 4-2 for third place

Ghana edged out Morocco 2-1 in an absorbing contest to claim top honours in the Amputee Football Tournament, held between 3 to 12 September 2023, in Accra.

In the thrilling final held at the McDan La Town Park Stadium, Ilyass Sbiyka opened the scoring for Morocco in the 23rd minute.

The lead, however, did not last long and two minutes later, Ghana’s Yussif Yamya equalised. With the scores tied one apiece, the match was forced into extra time and Richard Opentil scored the winner for Ghana in the 57th minute.

Earlier, Egypt defeated Angola 4-2 in the play-off for third place in the eight-team tournament. Rwanda, Liberia, Kenya, and Uganda settled for fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh places.

The next WAFF World Cup 2026 qualifier tournament, the African Amputee Football Championship, is scheduled to held in April 2024.
