Brazil Crowned Champions at the 2025 South American Amputee Football Cup in São Paulo

The city of São Paulo, Brazil, hosted the 2025 South American Amputee Football Cup (Copa Sul-Americana de Futebol para Amputados) from August 25 to 30, bringing together the continent’s top amputee football teams for an intense week of competition, inclusion, and inspiration.

The matches were played at the Centro Esportivo, Recreativo e Educativo do Trabalhador (CERET) in the Tatuapé district, with the final held at the Arena Mercado Livre Pacaembu. Entry was free, and all venues featured accessibility adaptations for athletes and fans.
The event was organized by the Confederação Brasileira de Futebol de Amputados (CBFA) in partnership with the World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF) and supported by the FIFA Foundation — marking the first time the tournament received official FIFA backing.

Eight national teams competed:
Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela.

The format included two groups of four teams each, followed by semifinals and classification matches.
Group A: Brazil, Uruguay, Peru, Ecuador
Group B: Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile

Results and Highlights
Brazil topped Group A after an unbeaten run, while Uruguay finished second to reach the semifinals. Argentina and Colombia advanced from Group B.

In the semifinals:
Brazil 3–0 Colombia
Uruguay 2–1 Argentina

The final at Pacaembu saw Brazil and Uruguay draw 1–1 in regular time before Brazil won 4–2 on penalties, capturing their third continental title. Colombia defeated Argentina to claim third place.

Qualification and Legacy

The top three finishers — Brazil, Uruguay, and Colombia — secured qualification for the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in Costa Rica.

Beyond competition, the São Paulo edition highlighted progress in visibility, infrastructure, and institutional support for adaptive sports. The tournament featured live streaming, youth engagement programs, and awareness campaigns promoting inclusion and accessibility through football.
