Our story

More than four decades of amputee football

From its early international competitions in the 1980s, amputee football has grown into a truly global sport, bringing together players, teams and communities from around the world. What began with pioneering tournaments in the United States has developed over more than four decades into an established international movement built on competition, inclusion, resilience and a shared passion for football.

The Amputee Football World Cup has played a central role in this journey. Over the years, teams from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas have come together to compete at the highest level and to showcase the quality, intensity and spirit of amputee football.

Host & main sponsor

Thank you, PROAN

This return would not be possible without PROAN (Proteína Animal), a family business founded in 1954 in San Juan de los Lagos by Don Manuel Romo Muñoz and his family, and a long-standing supporter of sport and of activities for families in the region.

PROAN already hosted the 2018 World Cup and the 2025 Amputee Football Gold Cup at the PROAN Sports Center, and is once again the main sponsor and part of the local organizing committee for 2026.

Once again, San Juan de los Lagos will welcome the international amputee football family for ten days of world-class competition, friendship and celebration. The WAFF Amputee Football World Cup 2026 continues a history spanning more than four decades — and opens another exciting chapter in the story of our sport.
