On 16th March 2023 WAFF delegation officially launched the WAFF Women’s Amputee Football Program in Kigali at Pele Stadium after the demonstration game of the women’s team from Rwanda.
Celeste Rosario, Mateusz Widłak and Georg Schlachtenberger, members of the World Amputee Football Federation, attended the 73rd FIFA Congress in Kigali. They were joined by Marcin Oleksy, an amputee football player and winner of the FIFA Puskas Award.
After the Congress, a promotional match between amputee men and women took place. The FIFA representatives, President Gianni Infantino, FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura and FIFA Council member Isha Johansen, together with former player Youri Djorkaeff and world-class referee Pierluigi Collina, had the opportunity to watch both men’s and women’s teams play and were present for the official launch of the WAFF women’s programme. The event was organised in collaboration with the Rwanda National Paralympic Committee, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Rwanda Amputee Football Association.
