WAFF General Assembly 2024: Key Updates and Future Plans
The World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF) recently held its annual General Assembly, with representatives from nearly all 60 member organizations attending. The meeting, conducted via ZOOM, provided a crucial platform for members to discuss the federation’s recent progress, upcoming events, and strategic goals for the future. The assembly began with comprehensive reports from the WAFF Executive Board, highlighting the achievements of the past year and sharing important updates on governance and development strategies. These reports were followed by contributions from the regional confederations, offering a snapshot of local initiatives designed to promote amputee football across various regions.
One of the key announcements during the General Assembly was WAFF’s official registration in the Netherlands, a significant milestone in the federation’s journey towards further international recognition. This development strengthens WAFF’s legal standing and will help bolster its operational capacity in the global sports community. In addition, members were updated on WAFF’s preparations to apply for membership to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) —an important step in aligning amputee football with the broader global para-sport movement.
The assembly also featured updates on the qualifying tournaments already held in Africa and Europe, which were highlighted as significant steps in advancing amputee football on the global stage. Members were given detailed information on the preparations for the much-anticipated Women’s World Amputee Football Championship, set to take place in Barranquilla, Colombia, in November 2024. This landmark event aims to showcase the best of women’s amputee football and will serve as an inspiration for players and fans alike.
Another key announcement was the upcoming General Assembly, scheduled for 30 November 2024, to be held again via ZOOM. This session will be particularly important as it will include the election of a new WAFF Executive Board, providing the federation with an opportunity to set a new board and continue its mission of promoting amputee football around the world.
